====Port Forwarding====

When using the SMS connection type, an SMS message is used to trigger the communicator module to launch a connection to the DLS IV computer.  To accept these incoming connections to DLS IV, the local network (DLS IV's local network) must be setup accordingly: a port must be opened for TCP traffic to be passed through to the DLS IV computer.

First, set your PC's network configuration to have a STATIC IP.  The port forwarding required by DLS IV will not work well with DHCP (dynamic IP).

Next, choose a port to be opened on your router/firewall.  We recommend using port number 30000 or higher, to reduce the chance of conflicting with another application.  This port is your '''Public Port'''. DLS IV is configured to be listening on port 51004 of the PC at ALL times.  This will be your '''Private Port'''.

The next step is to go in to your router or firewall connections and set it up to forward the correct ports. For more help on this, there are some excellent resources online such as [http://www.portforward.com PortForward.com]

The router/firewall can be configured accordingly:

:''IP = your static IP

:''PUBLIC Port = the port you chose

:''PRIVATE Port = 51004

:''Protocol = TCP

The last step, if necessary, is to open Port 51004 on the PC’s firewall. It’s important to note that Connect24 will need to know the '''Public Port'''.  When creating an account, be sure to include your '''Public IP''' and the '''Public Port'''.

What is a T-Link Module?

The T-Link module is DSC's IP connectivity solution for alarm panels. The T-Link comes in many different configurations depending on which control panel you wish to us it on, and what you plan on using it for. Among other functions, the T-link is the fastest and most convenient way to connect to your control panels using DLS IV.

What do I need to connect using DLS IV?

The first thing you will need to connect to the T-Link module is the IP address. This is the address on your network which the T-Link module is occupying. For ease of use, it is recommended that you use a static IP address instead of a dynamic IP address (DHCP) for the T-Link module.

You will also have to have the correct port. Under normal circumstances the default port (3062) should not need to be changed, however there are special cases where this may need to be done.

The last thing you will need is the encryption key. If you are not using encryption than this should be left blank on both the T-Link module and in DLS. If you wish to you encryption, you must ensure that the encryption key is identical in both locations.
